PostSubject: Making your own cutters   Tue Oct 13, 2009 12:56 pm

Hi all;

I make a few types of cutters for the lathe and mill. Mostly things that cost too much, or something that needs to fit a certain job. (I don't make end mills when they're only $5!).

I've been doing things like the counter bore above for quite some time, but until now haven't written up a page specifically about tool making. I recently needed a new #10 counter bore and this time I took pics and wrote up a quick page on the particulars.
If you're interested in this kind of thing, the link to the page follows:

http://www.deansphotographica.com/machining/projects/mill/cbore/cbore.html

The same basic guidelines can be followed for other straight fluted cutters, like reamers and T-slot cutters.

Excellent work Dean. I could have used one of these the other day. I must make a few when I get a chance. I never knew that about the magnet not attracting at the right temperature. Will make it easier for me anyway. Cheers.
