Hi all;

I make a few types of cutters for the lathe and mill. Mostly things that cost too much, or something that needs to fit a certain job. (I don't make end mills when they're only $5!).

I've been doing things like the counter bore above for quite some time, but until now haven't written up a page specifically about tool making. I recently needed a new #10 counter bore and this time I took pics and wrote up a quick page on the particulars.

Hi all;

No paying work coming in 'til Friday, so I made something that's been on my shop "to do" list for about 10 years. Really, 10 years, at least! I'd been using an old surface gauge to hold my dial indicators and DTI's for years and years, and every time it's a hassle. It always is when trying to use something for other than what it's made for. Anyway, I finally got around to making this little setup for holding my indicators on the lathe head stock. It will fit on the ...

Hi all;

Finished up a little boring head I've been working on the last weeknahalf or so. This is from a set of drawings by Steven Campbell. There is a link to the prints on my web page for this build, if you want to check them out. It's quite short so doesn't take up too much space between the spindle and the bed. Screws right on the spindle nose.

Web page for the boring head is here:

Hi.

I have a project making repro stocks for old norwegian rifles. Obvious, using a cnc-mill for the cutting of barrel channels and receiver slot would be a big advantaged.

Well, the Taigs z-height above working table and the x-axis lenght and travel is far less then requiered milling a 1200mm rifle stock. So, i made an add on x-axis, travel 1270mm (50"). Made an extention plate so I could bolt the spindel/motor some 50-75 (2-3\") heigher. The x-axis is \"bolt-on\" ...

Just wanted to show off my spindle upgrade. I had bought a Bosch Colt palm router about the same time I bought my Taig from Nick Carter. I tried to make an erzatz mounting bracket for it, but didn't really like the results. I also didn't like being limited to 1/4 shank tooling. I shelved the project, and learned to cut with the conventional ER-16 spindle.

Still, I wanted something more in the performance department from my mill. So I looked around, saw that K2 sold a bracket for the ...

Hello all;

I made this little guy so I can use the spindle taper to hold a dead center while using the face plate at the same time;

The taper on the left fits the 15 degree Taig spindle nose. The taper on the right is the standard for dead centers.

Nothing fancy, but practical for the kind of work I do. It has a draw bar that pulls it into the spindle taper. There is a short construction article with more pics at:
