My son-in-law does household repairs and I haul stuff away for him and then scrap it. Here is the thing, we get plenty of motors, both AC and DC, and we also get metal. It buys my tools. Now here is the question; what type of motors should I keep? I have a fabulous looking DC treadmill motor in my shed. I would rather keep things than scrap -- price differential. What ratings range should I watch for? In the past year I have tossed maybe twenty motors. This week I picked up two more from ...

I have been researching various ways to add a variable speed spindle motor to the Taig mill, both the manual version and the CNC mill. One of the drawbacks to the mill is having to change the belt ratio and the difficulty of keeping it aligned properly.

I looked into various 56C frame motors to replace the existing motor in the stock location but came back to the fact that we would still be left with a huge motor hanging off the side of the machine, and likely the same hassle with belt alignment.

Hi guys,

A discussion came up on the Geckodrive Yahoo group the other day where Mariss was explaining the benefits of micro-stepping and how their stepper drives morph from 10x micro-stepping to full steps as the RPM increases. That provides all the benefits of smoothness that micro-stepping offers without a reduction in power. I shot a quick video of two Taig 2019s one has 1/2 step driver and the other a Gecko G540. The difference between the drives is even more apparent in person. Note ...

These aren't cast in stone but it looks feasable with the parts I already have. It's not finished yet but I have it drawn up to give you an idea of what it will look like. It's pretty much the same as every other 3 axis CNC Router but ...

Well I ran my first real "production" job on my little Taig Lathe the other day and the motor will definitely need some cooling to help keep her cool.

Made up some aluminum heatsinks but does anyone know if this thermal epoxy will be strong enough to handle the vibration of a motor? The aluminum heatsinks will be epoxied to an aluminum sleeve that I have over the motor. I believe I'm going to add an 80mm fan as well.

It employs the venerable Gecko G540 and a 320W 48V MeanWell power supply, two 48V relays, and has a built spot for the SmoothStepper.
