Just a note for you guys, I was thinking about how I could modify a taig headstock to be able to get 1/2" material through the spindle so I contacted taig a little while back and believe it or not, they already make something like this for a customer of thiers.

It has the stock 3/4-16" spindle and the opening is .593" through the whole spindle and even comes with a modified pulley that has the smallest belt sheave removed.

It arrived today and will be a nice addition ...

So I bought the G540 and wired it up with a little help from "Crevicereamer" over at the "Zone".

I added 2 of the 270 oz. Keling KL23H276-28-4B steppers and the Keling KL-300-48 48V power supply and she runs like a champ so far. Like a bonehead, I completely forgot to wire in my fuseholder which I will have to do soon-

A couple of pics for you of the front of the controller sporting the logo I drew up which I thought was rather appropriate. And also a quick shot ...

I haven't had the need yet but I was thinking of rounding out my chop by getting a lathe. I already have the Taig mill and I do a little turning work with it but it would probably be easier to get a Lathe. I also have the G540 controller right now so I thin I would just need to get the CNC ready lathe and motors...any input is great

About a Month ago I bought a A2Z CNC Quick Change Toolpost for my Lathe,

I have not had much time to use it till this weekend and I have to tell you Guys This works Great on a Taig Lathe,

Its Designed like a KDK Holder for a Full Size Lathe, Just on a Smaller Scale

It does take up alittle more Room than the Stock Taig Toolpost but I have not Found this to be a Problem

It Comes with 4 holders, Fully Adjustable For getting Tools on Center...

Most of you guys Probably ...

While I was on here I just wanted to leave a quick note about something I tried last night. The 3-jaw synchronized Taig chuck is simple to use but trying to file down the nib left behind after truing the jaws is a real pain. I pulled the jaws off last night and filed off about 1/16" from the back side of the 'pointy' part, down to the alignment slot on each jaw. Now the washer used to load the jaws can set back behind the jaw surface on the actual steel jaw and you don't have the stupid ...

I have ordered most of the items to start to build a slant bed Taig CNC lathe that will be fashioned on Jose Santini's lathe. It will have several changes that should make it easier to build and adjust.

You can follow the build at http://www.taigusers.com/.

It is my understanding that cnccustom now owns the lathe that Jose designed. Maybe he will join us and share his insights to the overall design of his new machine.

What type of materials can it cut

Postby tbaxter on 03 Dec 2008 09:10

What type of materials can the Taig lathe cut, I need to make some 3/8 stainless steel rods turned down to 1/4 x 1/2 on the front and cutoff. Will the Taig be able to handle Stainless 316

I am by no means an expert, but I believe it can cut stainless steel ok. I have read of people cutting titanium with Taigs. ...

Just thought I'd share my recently built CNC Taig Lathe. Still learning the ropes with Mach 3 and the wizards that are included.

Unfortunately with my 2 jobs, I really don't have a huge amount of time but I'm getting there, slowly but surely.
