PostSubject: G540 & The Resistor or Resistors Please Help!   Thu Feb 26, 2009 2:16 am

Help needed!!! PLEASE.

I have the GECKO G540 I also got my power supply From Keling (KL-350-48 48V/7.3A ) along with the E stop switch and 4 KL23H276-28-4B stepper motors, a bridge rectifier, filter capacitor, Now when it comes to the Resistor or Resistors from what I can tell pin 1 and 5 get a currant or just one resistor going from pin 1 to pin 5 ? I also see others talking about resistors for each motor, ok I am lost so if someone can add the missing info and maybe a picture or drawing on how this is to be.

Thank you for your time.

P.S. I do not know a thing about electronics! No

Marty

The first page of the G540 manual says this:

Quote:
3) CURRENT SET RESISTORS: The current set resistor programs the axis drive current (0 to 3.5A) to match the rated phase current of the motor being used with the axis. Each axis requires a current set resistor. The resistor can be from 1/10 W to 1/2 W in size and 1% to 5% tolerance. The current set equals 1,000 Ohms per Amp of motor current. Example: A 3.3A per phase motor requires a 3.3K resistor, a 1.5A per phase motor requires a 1.5K resistor.

So you do need 1 resistor per axis (one inside each connector) as there is nothings that says you have to use the same motors for each axis. The resistor gets soldered across pins 1&5 inside the DB9 hood.

From Keling's website it looks like your motors are 2.8A per phase so you would need a 2.8K resistor. The closest standard resistor is a 2.7K.

Hope that helps.

Ok Thanks Jeff - I knew I was missing something thanks for putting the peices back in place for me! I was looking at the G540 thinking pin 1 & 5 not in the DB9 Connector!

Your the best Bud! Thanks

Marty

Got to love this place! Cool

Marty, here's a shot of how most of us have done it. I actually put a little bit of heat shring tubing over the resistor "legs" to keep it from hitting anything else.

mlp look here i got the resistors for my 2.8a motors at radioshack.

" 4.7K + 10K + 22K
(connect these in parallel and you will get a hair under 2.8K Ohms)

Got it Thanks Len.

I have been following your build for some time now.

Thanks
