PostSubject: Mach 3 + SmoothStepper + G540   Sun Mar 29, 2009 6:58 am

Hi guys, I was helping someone get a new SS + G540 going yesterday and thought I might drop a quick note here to perhaps help others avoid a bit of confusion.

The easiest way to get this combination going is to go over to do the following:

1) Install Mach 3
2) Install the SS driver and then the SS plug-in
3) Copy the 540B.xml from Gecko into your Mach install directory c:\Mach. (The xml is here: http://geckodrive.com/product.aspx?c=3&i=14469)
4) Run Mach Loader and create a new profile by cloning the G540B profile.
5) Run the new profile and go the the Function Cfg menu and select Reset Device Sel...this will let you select the motion control device for this profile the next time you run Mach with that profile.
6) Run you new profile again and select the SmoothStepper as the motion control device.
7) The SS plug-in will complain about the spindle motor setting so you'll have to change them to the correct port and pin.
