Shame you're so busy Brian. You've done an excellent job so far. Best forum I've ever joined. I'm sure someone out there can help. Best of luck.

brian I would not mind helping but it would be nice if you or someone else would not mind lending a hand. I think several minds working together or as a group would be best. i have four kids and currently work for two companies doing programming and also have lots going on with my own stuff. So if anyone here would like to form a team? or group to take care of the site, maybe this would help so you dont have to step down completely (unless that is what you want). count me in I will do whatever can to help.

Also maybe enabling ads to cover costs for hosting would not be bad, I dont mind adds, and if it would help keep the costs down it would be a good idea, and if not i will donate some money to cover the costs.

brian and or anyone else interested can contact me at blmartech@yahoo.com or len@cognitiveinnovations.com

also you may IM (PM) me at blmartech Yahoo instant messenger
samhain662000 AIM

who knows maybe we can put our great minds together and make this the best taig site out there.

It would be nice to have some people oversee a few areas of the site:

Free software section and links or downloads,
Cad file sections,
Taig cnc programs section (ready to go gcode)
Tutorials section
classified section

(I would be willing to host some of the downloads from my site if needed to keep bandwidth costs down)

I like the friendly atmosphere here too. I wouldn't mind helping out some but would not want to create a conflict of interest between here and my own website. In other words a site like this needs to welcome input from all vendors not just one. I would be willing to buy some add space too.

I Still want to be involved Really, when I can ....Probably more so at night, A Group Venture would be Perfect

Some of you May or May not know that I got Layed Off my Regular Job in March and Started my own Little Gig using my CNC Taig Mill. Not getting rich by any means but its Paying the Bills and Most of all I am Having Fun at it..

Most of my time now is spent designing New parts and Keeping the Machine Running..

The site really needs to get on a Regular Forum Server but I have no idea how to do that, When I started this here I thought the software would be a perfect fit for a Forum like thiis, and it was for awhile But I think Now is the time to go to a Real Deal..

I actually had offers from Mastercam and Gecko to run adds on the site but I didn't want to Commercialize it at the Time.....Fretsman knows this as I leaned on him for a ton of Advice and now he is fed up with the Software also

Some have offered $$$ to help out and I Really Appreciate that and That is what its going to take to go Real with this

Anyone have Ideas how to get all the info here to a Real Forum and the Cost involved...?

Good luck to you guys that take on the forum as I think with the right format, this could be a great place. Wish I knew a thing or 2 about forum setups to help out but I don't know squat and quite frankly, I won't be online as much as I used to be so I've also informed Brian that I wouldn't much help in moderating anymore.

I will say this, I think ads are tacky but if they're needed, then there's not much you can do about it. Just depends on what you can get away with.

Also, a little more input from the number of forum members we have here may liven up the joint a little Cool Being a watcher is undertsandable but without contributions to starting conversations or subjects, the place will not grow and just fade away.

Good luck to you guys-
Dave

Dave has a Valid Point...

if its just going to be the Reg 10-15 guys that Post/Log on then we might just be better off staying put.......

But then again a Real Forum might get people to use it more

Give me your input guys on This forum software...If the majority are ok with the little quirks that we have and can work around them we will just leave it as is..

The reason I wanted to go to a regular Server/Forum is Because all the Negative Emails and PM's I recieve about the Format here....

I do know that no matter what we do its not going to Please everyone.

I have to say that I haven't spotted the quirks yet. This Forum is about machining and not web design!! You never can please everybody, but what Forums on this subject manner are any better..... the Yahboo group... I think not!

Thanks for your hard work to date. I have learnt more from the contributors to this site than I ever did at the 'other' place.

Cheers,

I don't think the format of the forum is bad. Every forum I use seems to have its own quirks. What I appreciate the most both as a forum member (and can appreciate being a mod on another form) is that this forum is absent all the snide comments that you see other places. I know the folks who like to spew that non-sense are tough on moderators and admins.

I also would again like to make a motion for advertisements. While I don't like forums and websites so full of ads that you can't find the content. Or sites who pop-up those stupid ads you have to click off; a few well placed ads from reputable shops can be done in a classy manner. Advertisements of Taig/machining related stuff is good for the forum member as we get to find out about products we might not have heard of before and it is good for the business as it helps to draw customers. I could see a few ads in a side bar kind of like the Gallery box.

My Dad used to sell print ads. The back of his business card pictured a guy with his feet up on his desk and the slogan, "The feller who don't advertise may know his business but nobody else does." That line kind of sums up my thoughts.

Hello Brian and the rest of the Group,

I was surprised to read you are receiving negative feedback on th forum. I've certainly been happy with the look and feel of the forum as well as the good nature of the people who post here. I also follow the Taig group on Yahoo. I enjoy it too, but I like the format/layout of this forum as photos can be linked directly to the posts.

The Home Model Engine Machinist site has a similar look to the TOC and I suspect it runs under a similar type software. (Not sure I as stating that correctly) HMEM is another example of a helpful group of people.

http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/index.php

I have no objection to ads related to our hobby on the forum. The ads on CNC Zone don't bother me. Forum members might also kick in a few bucks as needed to keep things running.

I doubt the current drop in posts are due to the forum format. I think people are busy and will post as questions or comments come up. Many forums seem to slow down over summer and then pick up as people get back to their hobbies in the fall and winter.

Brian if I can help in some way please let me know.

Regards,

Chuck Kuhn

Sorry, I guess that message was not very clear. I was testing to see if Javascript would work in the widget boxes on the left side of the screen. I'll work on it some more this week so there may be a few minutes every now and then that the home page formatting is goofed up.

Brian, I have enabled uploads for the files section of my site

http://www.cognitiveinnovations.com

I you or any other members would like to use it to share files you may, If you would like to make a post about it somewhere on the site, feel free. It is an easy way to upload and share files for other people to download. After a Upload is approved it will show up in the downloads section of my site.

If not, no problem. I just figured I would offer, although you must be a member to upload or download files. I also have a forum but it is not visible to anyone but me at the moment as it doesnt get used.

I have also added several new downloads like dxf files and will be uploading some more in the comming weeks. Im working on some taig and mach3 ready gcode programs for taig cnc newbies and others that would just like some ready to run programs for their taig. I also have some other DXF files for download for large cnc routers if anyone has access to a one (a vinyl cutter stand and an arcade cabinet for mame will be comming soon).

I only ask that if you upload a dxf file put it in a zip file with a picture of the dxf and a text file (if you want to credit the author). and also upload the pic in the screenshot box when uploading.

I also have a very large collection of eps files for my vinyl cutter, if you look in the [Vinyl Windows Stickers] section of my site you will find about 1000 diferent ones if anyone would like anything converted to a dxf shoot me a private message through my site.

Also my site allows members to add their picture to their profile, so we can get to see what everyone looks like and allows you to upload photos of projects and links to your videos on youtube.

I did recently add some advertisements to my site, I hope these dont offend anyone but i am trying to get a little bit back atleast maybe enough to cover my yearly hosting fees. (I put a lot of work into making some of these and future stuff available to everyone)

Brian if this bothers anyone let me know and i will delete it (i am not trying to take traffic from this site but am offering to provide what the forum lacks.)
