My Taig arrived last week while i was traveling for work and last night i unboxed it and made my first cuts with it. I'm really pleased with the quality and the feel for such a small machine. I told my wife to come into my 'workshop' to check out the mill and she had to take a few looks until she could actually find it, so either she was expecting a Bridgeport or my room is a mess!

I plan on moving to CNC, hopefully this year, and sooner rather than later.

Congrats on the new arrival, Steve.

It sounds like it's time to clean your room and get a B'port! She may never notice...

Thanks, Dean. And I actually ran into your website quite a while ago and it was actually a big part in helping me cement my decision on a Taig vs. Sherline vs. Seig

Hi Steve,

yeah alot of these guy's websites made me decide on a Taig also, all you have to do is look at the work thay do on their Taig machines. Dean, Jeff, Nick and quite a few others here and on Yahoo and other forums have been very very helpfull in my quest. I hope to have my lathe in a few weeks ! Do you have a Taig lathe too? or just the Milling Machine ? How do you like either or ??

Tony,
I have the CNC ready Taig mill, but i'm using the handles until i end up making the jump to CNC. The quality on the mill is better than I expected and I'm really happy with the Taig over an import. I only wish that i could drill easier like a drill press.

I also have a 7x14 lathe i got from MicroMark when it was on sale and free shipping. Looking back, the only reason i got the mini-lathe instead of a Taig is the powerfeed and most importantly being able to turn threads. the quality surely suffers on the minilathes and it takes a bit of 'tuning' to get it running smoothly. of course the finish also leaves a lot to be desired.

These tools are the right size for me since i'm an apartment dweller and don't have room for larger tools and larger projects.

Ok I see, you do have a Micro Mark, I was going to go that route too, but I hate to buy in NJ have to pay sales tax ontop of the shipping cost more $$, and the MM lathe is more expensive than other mini's to start with. I have heard that it is better than most Seigs though, better quality control I guess, steel gears, true inch and all that jazz. I am working in my house so size is a big thing for me too. If I could lick up a Mini cheap i would go that way I think, but for now saving $ for the Taig.

Thanks Tony

Steve,

Have you seen the "Engineman's" drill attachment?

I looked up his site for you but the pics are down so I found it through the "wayback machine" and it's still up.

Have a look:

Nice! thanks! i saw a similar one, but there were not very many detailed photos there. I'll have to add this to the project list.
