Hi everyone! I've just stumbled onto this forum - didn't know there was anything dedicated to taig machine owners until now - very cool. I purchased a taig cnc mill a couple years ago but had issues getting things running early on and was too busy to spend much time with it until recently. I picked up a taig lathe from Nick over at cartertools.com (awesome customer service) and am just getting up to speed. Thanks to the admin for setting up this site - I look forward to learning with everyone here! -Keith

Hi Keith,

Welcome to the forum, good to have you aboard.

Nick is a great guy and more than happy to help anytime I need a question answered. I've just about bought all my stuff from him and he's always there to back it up.

Welcome to the forum, Keith. There's a lot of "Taig-fu" going on here. Ask what ever you need to know about your machines. Someone will probably have an answer.

All - Thanks for the welcomes!

Tony - I ordered a book of beginner steam engine plans and built the "Oscillating Steam Engine Material Kit" from littlemachineshop this last week. My resulting build isn't the smoothest running engine but I learned quite a bit along the way. I've got a few cnc plastic parts under my belt as well but I'm finding that I prefer to go manual for most tasks. In fact, I wish I'd started with the taig lathe and worked my way up from there. The first thing I made with the lathe were handles for the mill (cnc option doesn't usually come with useful ones)! What are you planning to make? -Keith

Hey Keith,

Ah, I just today printed out the plans for LMS Oscillator, Elmers Tiny, and # 25, and The Lucy, see through Lucite engine. I am a scale model builder, ships now, used to be armor. There is a call for barrels, capstans and such in the ship and armor modeling hobby so i will be making parts for myself and others I hope. A friend makes jewelry and she is going to give me designs to turn hopefully. I have my eye on dial indicator bases I might make also. I am getting the milling attachment and am going to buy a drill press, that will have to be the extent of my shop for now.
I'll say one thing making static things, barrels etc. seems mundane compared to the things I see guys making with their Taigs. I'll probably order a engine material kit from LMS too, make it easy the first time around. For now when I get the lathe I will just make some chips and curls to get my feet wet. I am sure I'll get hooked on these engines though ! !

Tony - I look forward to seeing your projects! I will have to check out those other model engines you mentioned.. I just ordered a book with several steam engine plans but would like to get into hot air engines once I get a better skill set. I'll have to check out those other steamers you mentioned. Are the plans readily available somewhere for free? -Keith
