PostSubject: Last minute Gift ;o)   Sun Dec 21, 2008 6:23 am

This is my first actual V Carve project and it was done on my little Taig mill for my wife as another last minute gift.

The size is 2.000 X 6.000 at a .500 thick and is made from mahogany. I first machined it, then stained it with rosewood gel stain, then before it was completely dry, I lightly sprayed it with satin black paint. Then, just before that was completely dry, I used a toothbrush to remove and blend the black paint and stain to give it that "antiquish" look. After everything was dry, I just sanded the top surface to level everything off and used tung oil to finish it. It's not as glossy as the pic shows..

My wife always loved this saying and someday I hope to be able to build a nice size gantry router system to be able to make a larger version to hang somewhere.

Not nearly as nice as some of the work here but thought you might like to see it anyway-

Happy Holidays to all of you-

Dave

I will say this for V Carve, and this is obviously my opinion, but it is the easiest and quickest software I've learned to use to date. I've tried many other programs and this by far is my favorite and I experience NO real problems as of yet.

I do a lot of engraving and the text features alone are worth every single penny and the rest is just a bonus for me.

Simply fantastic-

Dave what cutter did you use for this and where did you get them, also while we are talking cutters, I have photo-carve and am looking for the small 60-90 degree cutters, where is the best place to get those? Any take Paypal?

Hi Brian,

I just used an Amana 90 degree routing bit made for wood, nothing special. For your cutters that your looking for, try precisebits.com but I don't think they take paypal. You can look to make sure though-

Dave,

May I copy the photo and forward it to a friend. He is exploring the idea of buying a mill to make brass plaques. I think that he would like to see this.

Dave, this subject was first posted before I joined the group, so I missed seeing this. It's very nice work, and a lovely sentiment.
