While I was on here I just wanted to leave a quick note about something I tried last night. The 3-jaw synchronized Taig chuck is simple to use but trying to file down the nib left behind after truing the jaws is a real pain. I pulled the jaws off last night and filed off about 1/16" from the back side of the 'pointy' part, down to the alignment slot on each jaw. Now the washer used to load the jaws can set back behind the jaw surface on the actual steel jaw and you don't have the stupid nib to worry about. My testing showed the chuck to be just as (in)accurate with either method.
I suspect that if one used a more precisely round washer to load the jaws you could get the chuck to center better.
Anyhow, I'll take some pictures and post them in a day or so.
