PostSubject: Slant Bed Lathe build   Tue Dec 09, 2008 4:10 pm

I have ordered most of the items to start to build a slant bed Taig CNC lathe that will be fashioned on Jose Santini's lathe. It will have several changes that should make it easier to build and adjust.

You can follow the build at http://www.taigusers.com/.

It is my understanding that cnccustom now owns the lathe that Jose designed. Maybe he will join us and share his insights to the overall design of his new machine.

Jose did a Great Job of Designing this Slantbed, Very Sturdy and Clean Looking,

i have not had a Chance to run it yet I have contacted him on Pin setups for the driver, The xml file he sent with it does not seem to work...

I will update when I get it Going

It sounds like you like your new machine.

I'm starting to document my new build as the new parts arrive.

CNC Custom, how is the lathe running by now? Does it have a ball screw on the cross slide? What kind of ball nuts are used?

Sprinter, what kind/brand of ball screws and nuts are you going to use on your CNC Taig build? Also, you said you were simplifying a few things to make the build easier/less costly. Could you give us a preview of the changes while we are waiting for your build to start? You've made me curious as to the changes.

Regards,

Chuck

Ok, thanks. I'll keep an eye on the other forum. I thought it was going to be closed down.

Sprinter, maybe I missed something. All the messages from the Taig Users Group were transferred to the Taig Owner's Club. That is why I thought the other forum was being replaced.

About the ball nuts im not sure about that, would have to ask Jose. but I think its stock taig

Thanks, but I actually looked there and I saw the motor, headstock, a pic of the stepper with the helical coupler but no specs for any of the parts I asked about.

Possibly I'm missing something in the forum?

Thanks,
Dave

That information will be added as the build progresses and will be listed in a PDF file available for registered users to download.

I'll have to register over there then, thanks for the info and I look forward to watching the build-
