PostSubject: another CNC emergency!!   Wed Jun 10, 2009 5:35 am

Been a while since i have posted here. I hope all is well!

Truth is that i have not used my mill much since the project i bought it for was complete.

Anyway, i have decided to revisit the project now that i physically have a copy of the part i was creating from drawings.

Pictured here at the bottom, is the original part, in white is my latest cut of the buckle, and at the top is my 1st attempt at it- which was done from pictures..

You can see that my newest cut (white) was drawn to the same specs as the original (bottom). But this is the story of my milling life--- it just doesnt seem to be cutting correctly. It tapers the edges, loosing left to right and top to bottom dimension, in addition to just not being to the correct scale everywhere else..

WHAT IS CAUSING THIS> LMAO????

hope someone can help.

I am using a Taig, with a gecko G540 (if i remember correctly) running it around 35 IPM and cutting in wax.

thanks in advance!

Its huge! how can I post it so that it doesnt take up== uhh, a lot?

I think the probelm is that i am using regular micro endmills rather than a long reach.

you can post it in the File sharing area.....

I seen your thread on the zone, yea if your shank hits you could be losing steps if the Endmill is not Breaking....

wow i posted yesterday and it didnt show up..

It looks to uniform to be losing steps.

my guess is a steps per inch issue.

also check the model to see if it is correct or the cam settings.

what cam are you using?

Yes, sorry for the super long delay.

Its all about long reach tooling, i guess.

I also- just last night figured out that i can tell the machine how deep to cut when generating tool paths.. I think i should be good from here.

I want to make a couple of changes to the machine-- I want the motor to start and stop on its own.

I have no safety stops.

and i want to go faster than 40-50 ipm. The setup i have should easily go 65+ according to gecko..

thanks guys-

keith, you will need a relay board which can be easily made or you can purchase one, A 2 relay unit will work for a spindle and a coolant pump.

I had purchased one from winford for my deepgroove box. when i switched over to a geckodrive i was unsuccessful in getting it to work so i just made one using some relays i had sitting around and a piece of unetched circuit board.

Safety stops should be wired in a nc (normally closed) setup which will allow the machine to e-stop when the button is pressed or on equipment failure in the e-stop circuit.

the 65+ I can't help you with as im hitting the limits of my pc being used as a controller. (Ive been thinking of ditching mach3 in favor of emc and windows as my cnc machine and vinyl cutter pc's are the only ones left with windows in my house).

so are you willing to sell the one for the deep groove box? what is entailed in setting it up? How much and what would shipping be?

so its not just something i wire in? oof.

yah, id love it if the machine would just shut the motor off when it was done with its program, or waiting for a tool change.

Dont care about coolant.. im running in wax only...
