Jeff
Thank you for the reply, I don't know what size power supply I have now, it says "75v0 94vo then under that it has 9728 also U066w rev,
and 150 micro F. I looked at the link you mentioned and it looks like I am going in the wrong direction with my update if you say my 2.4 amp motors should do the job, I have to go awful slow and thin or they will skip steps or stall. Im a little confused, what exactly is the smooth stepper everyone is talking about? is it part of the Gecko board? also I am having trouble finding the parts you mentioned on your website, the power supply and the Gecko board

Thanks
Randy

You can find the power supply here: http://soigeneris.com/CNCParts.aspx

The G540: http://soigeneris.com/gecko.aspx

Here is a drive box that I build from them: http://soigeneris.com/CNCPartsPage4.aspx

The SmoothStepper is a USB based motion control board. It emulates 2 (plus) parallel ports worth of I/O and generates the step pulses so the PC does not have to. Since everything is done in custom hardware the pulse stream is very smooth and stable. Some PCs can have issues generating a good pulse stream and some do a fine job. I have found that the SS helps get folks up and running faster. The drive box above was built to house a SS inside of it.

Thank you Jeff
I saw somewhere where you had a special on I think the Gecko G540 and the power supply, also do you sell the bigger G540 case by itself? Will you be able to help me with installation as I am using Mach 2 (been a little leary of changing to Mach 3) and I am not understanding how to use the USB port instead of the parallel port, or do I use them both? As near as I can tell at this point I need to use the USB for the smooth-stepper to work ??
Thanks
Randy

Hey Randy, can you send me an email to: birt_j@soigeneris.com? I don't want to clutter things up on here with 'business'.

A few of your questions I suspect will be wondered about by others. When upgrading from Mach2 to Mach 3 you need to write down all of your Ports&Pins assignments and motor tuning numbers (steps/unit). You have to enter then again in Mach 3 as there is no way to import them directly.

To use the SmoothStepper or any other motion control card with Mach you just install the motion control cards plug-in and create a profile in Mach and tell Mach to use the motion control card as the motion device, rather than the parallel port. It actually takes longer to describe than to do.

A lot of times you'll find that a manufacturer or dealer will have a starting profile that you can download and use. For instance Gecko has one for the G540, it has most of the settings specific for the G540 already set. I also have one for the G540+SS+Taig.
